East Oak Hill was once part of an independent town called Live Oak Springs. The town was annexed by the city of Austin in 2000. East Oak Hill is nestled in the hill country, with plenty of natural scenery, but is still close to downtown.

The western section of the neighborhood has some larger, expensive homes, some perched on choice lots with commanding views of the hills. The eastern section has quiet, tree-lined streets with rows of houses on both sides. There are many newer homes here, built in the 1990s or later.

Residents tend to be couples in their 30s and 40s, as well as seniors and empty nesters. Amenities include a pool, hiking and biking trails, and several local city parks including nearby Barton Creek Wilderness Park.

Oak Hill has its own newspaper, the Oak Hill Gazette, to keep residents informed of local developments.

Not be much in the way of shopping or nightlife here, but the conveniences of downtown and west Austin are just a few miles away. The neighborhood offers easy access to major local highways MoPac and Hwy. 290.
